Learning to write essays properly is the most important thing to do when it’s about academics. You might already have the idea about it since you had given the matric exams and of course, you had to tackle the “essay” part during the exams. In F.Sc, the essay holds the weightage of 15 marks which is nothing but bonus marks if you may ask. In an essay, there are different sections that you need to understand properly and know the whats, whens, whys, and hows. One of the most important sections of an essay is adding quotations.
You’re probably familiar with the essay “My Last Day At College,” aren’t you? There’s a high chance that you find this essay on your question paper on the exam day. If it happens, what will you do? Will you leave this free 15-marks reward or will you attempt to complete it? That totally depends on the way you have prepared yourself for the essay. Talking about the quotations’ part - quotations add authenticity to the essays and examiners actually love it when they see them.
Quotations are basically used whenever one wants to justify or prove a statement or an argument that he/she is talking about in an essay. The quotations used in essays are always the ones from known and authentic historical personalities such as Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Edison, etc. So, when you’re writing the essay on “My Last Day at College” during your exams, never miss adding multiple quotes at different parts of the essay and ensure your high marks in your English exam.
Of course, there are certain rules that one must follow while working on a task in order to complete it properly. Likewise, quotations have certain rules that you must follow. It is important that you learn the things to do and not to do while using quotations in your essay of “My Last Day at College.” This is something that the masters of essay writing don’t tell the newbies.
Use only the quotations that add insight to your argument/emotion. Relevance is highly important.
Make sure that your quotations are authentic and have depth.
Use the right spots to write your quotations.
Using too many quotations is surely not a wise step. Overcrowding your essay with quotations will give it a bad look and you wouldn’t want that - neither the examiner.
Do not misquote a quotation! Doing this is strictly prohibited. Basically, you’re not allowed to use your own words, remove one, or add one at all.
Using quotations just to increase your word count is strictly prohibited. Avoid using them at all if the quotations do not support your argument/emotion.
